About | COLLEGES

FOUR Camphill communities in England and Wales have specialist colleges of further education catering for young people from the age of 16 upwards with moderate to severe learning disabilities.

They are Coleg Elidyr, near Llandovery, Carmarthenshire; Pennine Camphill Community at Wakefield, West Yorkshire; The Mount Camphill Community, Wadhurst, East Sussex; and William Morris House, Eastington, Gloucestershire. All offer residential and day places and take an integrated therapeutic approach to education. Each curriculum aims to foster the development of the whole human being - body, mind and spirit - so that each student develops an established identity, a greater ability to communicate and the self confidence to cope with adult life

Every aspect of daily life at college offers learning opportunities - including laying the table for breakfast, using a computer in the IT suite, creating a weaving or clay pot in one of the craft workshops, taking part in a play or musical performance, counting out the correct money for a bus fare, shopping in town or socialising with others at home.

Each colleges has its own atmosphere and approach to education. All aim to develop practical skills for everyday life and stimulate creativity, building confidence and achievement so that students are motivated and in control of themselves.
