SCHOOLS | applications

PROSPECTIVE pupils who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs and are identified as having moderate or severe learning disabilities may be referred by local education authorities or social services departments. The parents or carers of children may also make the initial contact with our schools

We normally invite parents or carers and, if appropriate, relevant professionals for an informal visit before arranging a formal interview for the child and the parents/carers and/or relevant professionals.

Following the interview, the school's admissions coordinator, in liaison with senior staff members, will determine if the school can meet the needs of the child. If so, the school will inform the parents or carers and invite the placing authorities to formally apply.

Following receipt of a completed application the school will either:

  • Make a written offer of a place.
  • Advise that there is no current vacancy and offer to place the child's name on the waiting list.
  • Advise that the school believes it cannot meet the child's needs.

When a place is offered, parents or carers and placing authorities are asked to confirm their acceptance in writing. Following confirmation, the parents or carers will receive an information pack including details of the child's teacher and houseparent as well as a clothing list for residential pupils.

The first full term at the school is normally regarded as an assessment period with an assessment review at the end of that time.
