News | Camphill Village Trust seeks Trustees

THE Camphill Village Trust is looking for Trustees to join its governing Council and you might have just the skills we're looking for.

It's the largest of the Camphill charities and, with nine communities in England and two in Scotland, it is registered in both countries. Last year the charity had a turnover of £26 million pounds serving over 500 vulnerable adults. As we continue to grow, it is important that we develop and add to the skills of the Council.

As chairman, I find it's a responsible role that allows me to draw on my life-skills and brings great personal satisfaction. With my colleagues, I help guide the CVT on many levels, giving advice, scrutinising the finances and offering a strategic overview for all the different communities as a whole.

However, we need more people from all walks of life to assist us in guiding the development of the CVT in meeting our charitable aims. So we are inviting interested people to become Trustees.
Is it something you could do? The fact that you read Camphill Pages suggests you may already have a good understanding of the Camphill values and vision for those we seek to help. Are you drawn to working with us more closely to help make a difference?

We're looking for people with sensitive leadership skills, the ability to innovate, to challenge assumptions and to speak their minds. We particularly need people with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience of governance issues and modern-day charities.
  • Networking and relationship building with policy makers at local or national level.
  • Accountancy, legal or personnel skills.
  • Experience in health and social care.

If you also have experience of contributing to board or committee meetings, are able to make a commitment to attend our Council meetings (held every other month on a Saturday in one of our communities) and devote the necessary time, we'd be delighted to hear from you. The work isn't onerous but we do need commitment. Travel and out-of-pocket expenses are paid and Trustee training is also given.

If you would like to help us, please write, outlining your interest and experience, to Jeff Balls, Honorary Secretary, Camphill Village Trust, The Old School House, Town Street, Old Malton, North Yorkshire, YO17 7HD. For an informal discussion or for more information about the role of a Trustee, contact Jeff Balls or office manager Jane Short on 0845 0944 638.
