We offer an annual 12-month volunteer programme starting in August each year. In order to be considered for volunteering you need to complete an application form which is available on our website This is an opportunity for you to develop skills and experience before making career further decisions, taking on further study or using this experience to make a difference when you return to your home community. You will work alongside colleagues in our care and education teams by providing support to our students (aged between 6 to 24) as they develop their personal, educational and social skills and you may assist with special projects. We provide a ‘waking day’ curriculum where all members of staff contribute (24/7) to helping our students develop their social, educational and emotional abilities as they progress into maturity. Often working with a specific student you will support them in achieving individual targets and to pursue leisure interests. You’ll join one of 6 small teams of care workers and work within a weekly shift system and comprehensive training will be provided throughout your placement. Bringing a wide range of diverse cultural interests, perspectives and experiences our volunteers provide a contribution which enriches and builds upon the work of our salaried staff. In return you will have a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference and often experience a fantastic sense of achievement. While this position is unpaid, you will be provided with food, accommodation and payment of agreed expenses. Application are invited from 1st November each year, using the application form that be downloaded from our website. Interviews will be conducted in person or via Skye from the middle of February the following year.

Brief Community sketch

The Sheiling Ringwood is an independent special school and college providing residential and day services for students aged between 6 and 24, who have with moderate to severe complex learning needs. We provide curative, ‘waking day’ education in a community setting. A warm, secure family base is created through life in extended households. Sport and other activities take place in 25 beautiful hectares of fields and woodland. We pride ourselves on providing a family type environment where the individual counts. Our aim is for staff and students alike to flourish and develop
