Volunteer vacancies : Volunteer support workers

Join us and make a difference! The Sheiling School is currently looking for volunteers to become part of our enthusiastic and dynamic team. We welcome volunteer and gap year workers who are seeking an experience of supporting children and young people with special educational needs. Each year we recruit a small number of live-in volunteers. We welcome applications all year round but we usually like people to commit to staying for a minimum of 10 months to 1 year. There are also options to stay longer to undertake training and to take on more responsibility. The Sheiling School is an independent residential school for children and adolescents aged 6-19 with special educational needs. We offer residential placements for termly and weekly boarders, day placements and short-term breaks. Located on a beautiful estate in Thornbury, near Bristol, the Sheiling School aims to provide pupils with a holistic education within a safe, secure and well-supported environment. We have superb facilities and provide pupils with an excellent academic education, as well as a wide range of therapies. You will be expected to work 42.5 hours per week, doing a variety of support tasks including supporting pupils displaying challenging behaviour. Relevant qualification and/or experience of supporting children or adults with a learning disability essential. You will work within a friendly team and accommodation if necessary is onsite. Camphill Communities, Thornbury, is a therapeutic environment for children and adults in need of special care aged 6 years and upwards to support and develop the potential of each individual. Set in 50 acres of beautiful farm and parkland, it is located, in Thornbury, near Bristol.
