WHILST historically all Camphill communities have been started, developed and carried by volunteer Co-workers, all centres nowadays rely to varying degrees on people who offer their skills and expertise as employees.
Especially schools and further education and training colleges now employ a considerable number of specialist teachers and therapists. In most communities functions in administration, domestic support, estate maintenance and other technical support, and craft workshops are often covered by people in an employment relationship. Most employees are not resident in the community.
With this shift to increasisng employment a challenge arises for both community members and those joining the work as employees to share the commitment of carrying and shaping the life of a community; to uphold the vision and ideals of a Camphill intentional and life-sharing community in an increasingly specialist and professional environment. An exciting place to work in!
Some people join a Camphill community initially in an employment relationship and may later, perhaps through getting closely involved, change to become a volunteer Co-worker. The reverse also happens, often through changes in a person's circumstances.
Recruitment and terms of employment
These are subject to current employment law and regulations and the specific recruitment and employment policies and procedures of each centre. For each employment opportunity the centre will provide an application pack including job description and person specification. This website provides a section where communities in England & Wales may advertise employment opportunities. Please use the online enquiry facility for an initial contact.
Due to the very restrictive UK immigration system it is highly unlikely that Camphill communities will be considering employing citizens from countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA). In the rare situations where this is attempted an application for entry clearance under Tier 2: Employment will be made. To this end the community will need to be licensed as a Tier 2 sponsor with the UK Border Agency.
In the first place please request further information from the Employment contact in the respective community. For general questions you can also contact the Camphill England & Wales Co-worker Development Office at coworker@camphill.org.uk; Tel. 0845 0944638. Please note that this Office is not able to help with or process specific employment applications. These are entirely the domain of the individual communities.
